She's my girlfriend

Gill Deacon is my television girlfriend. She's so pretty.
Sadly her daytime talkshow was canned by the CBC last fall due to poor ratings. But for those of you who, like me, have a huge mom-crush on her, you can go check out her blog and add her book to your summer reading list. And no, she's not bitter that she got completely shafted out of a great job.

Deodorant Woes

Now I know I shouldn't be using antiperspirant, but I do. GASP. Yup, I do. Good old Degree Shower Clean. One day I will switch, but only when I have lost all faith in my Degree. The day is close, I can smell it... I've recently been very disappointed with a certain product that goes by the name Rain Storm. Don't let it's crisp, clean name deceive you... it's really just a hard condensed stick of body odour. Really, I'm not lying to you. You slap it on, and 5 minutes later, you stink. Game over.
I've had my fair share of sweat issues. Hell, I've even duck-taped the inside of a button down shirt to prevent the sweat stains from appearing. I was that kid at camp who had to be pulled aside and told to get some deodorant. I once gave up playing Risk because I had pit stains down to my waist (gawd, that game is stressful). I, to this day, don't understand how my parents can happily go about their days without any. underarm. protection. while I carry this great burden of shame. The shame of sweat.
So again, I am confessing to you: I sweat, I have pit stains, and more often than not...I have body odour and I'm ok with it. Do you guys think kids at Marilyn's camp ever told her to "for gawd's sake- wear deodorant"?

Dumpster Diving

Verona
Planet Queen

I had a dream last night about dumpster diving for food and sleeping outside... my fears of being homeless are coming back to haunt me...
Anyways, here are some pieces from a London based artist/designer who takes homeless turn of the century antiques and transforms them into 'furniture art': Anna James (via Dwell)

I think these pieces are lovely, kind of what Amélie Poulain would wear. All from Luxe De Luxe. AND reasonably priced...

Up Next

Are you excited for the next big burst in the garden....
Alliums

Peonies

And after all that Flickr surfing, can I say that macro shots of flowers are dead to me? Enough. We get it.

Back to Cooking

So we just got our very own propane bbq and let me tell you, it has been firing up some good eats for the last few weeks. So much so, that it has completely renewed my interest in cooking. I might even do some meal planning today! I've been grilling up tons of sausages, veggies, chicken and serving light crisp meals complete with salads and my new favorite- lebanese cucumbers. YUM.
Anyways, on some culinary surfing, I stumbled across this interactive map that should help me remember what's in season and where it's in season... you know, when you can't have home grown produce everyday!

Tile my world

I know I already posted a photo of their tiles, but the Toronto based ceramics studio Xenia Taler makes THE. MOST. GORGEOUS. TILES. EVER.
Yes, it would cost one trillion dollars to tile even the smallest backsplash, but come one people, these things are small pieces of art.

Post on post

So we got a care package in the mail from a certain textile design genius over in England!! How much fun is that? I don't have any pictures for you because I am experiencing some technical difficulties with my camera (i.e I'm boycotting it). BUT, you should go check out her website The Paper Trail where she experiments and blogs about projects made from discarded materials.
She is a CONSTANT source of inspiration and is going to be VERY famous one day. So remember this name: Stephanie Phillips.

Go Away

From A Gallery of Walls with Stuff Written on:

Maybe one day Bruno and I will own a truck like this. Maybe we'll be the old hippy couple in Into the Wild. Who knows.
That's all I've got. I know, pretty lame.
Go outside or something.

Stationery Love

All from Sally Shim at this Etsy shop. She has the most lovely sense of aesthetics. Her blog also showcases her amazing home, boys and photography. AND I bet you she hates marigolds!

For your consideration

I seem to only be able to read things that are shorter than 10 pages... here's what's been keeping me 'intellectual' for the past couple of weeks...
This article from Harper's about the raw milk debate.
This article from Vanity Fair about the mega demon Monsanto. (this one came highly recommended by my oldest friend Jessie- the one most likely to change the world.)

And since it seems like Cochonet Rouge is turning into a flower blog....The house up the street just planted a bed of annuals and- of course- the star player is the marigold. Nothing disgusts me more than these ugly smelly welfare flowers. Harsh?Maybe. True? Absolutely. It's like the potato of flowers. They're inexpensive but they get the job done. Same thing goes for honeydew and cantelope, but I'll save that rant for another post titled:
"To all you breakfast places... why can't any of you get it right? How hard is it to cook breakfast?"
Marigolds are dead to me. Anyone who plants them is considered 'on notice'. You have been warned.

To all the ladies in the house....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ... enough money within her control to move out and rent a place of her own, even if she never wants to or needs to...
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
something perfect to wear if the employer, or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .. a youth she's content to leave behind....
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ... a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to retelling it in her old age....
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ..... a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra...
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .... one friend who always makes her laugh... and one who lets her cry...
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .... a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family...
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ... eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, and a recipe for a meal, that will make her guests feel honored...
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ..
a feeling of control over her destiny...
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... how to fall in love without losing herself..
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... how to quit a job, break up with a lover, and confront a friend without; ruining the friendship...
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
when to try harder... and WHEN TO WALK AWAY... EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... that she can't change the length of her calves, the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents..
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... that her childhood may not have been perfect...but it's over...
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... what she would and wouldn't do for love or more... EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... how to live alone... even if she doesn't like it...
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW.. . whom she can trust, whom she can't, and why she shouldn't take it personally...
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... where to go... be it to her best friend's kitchen table. or a charming Inn in the woods... when her soul needs soothing...
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... What she can and can't accomplish in a day... a month...and a year...

Moving Time

Well the dreaded July 1st date is looming and quite a few of you will be changing your homes up for new ones! So here are some snippets of boldly colored rooms! Who knows, you might dare to do something totally wild in your new digs.

Accessories...

I caught some of the Oprah/Sex and the City episode and was amazed when they went behind the scenes to the wardrobe lady.... does she not have the coolest job? Anyways, it got me thinking about accessories and how I have none. So here is my imaginary shopping spree for summer accessories.

Hat, necklace bag and shoes from none other than Anthropologie!

This red, blue and gold business is making me swoon...

Book Wish List

Here are a few books that I'm dying to read... maybe I should pull out that ol' library card again....

Oh and I'm baking cupcakes for tonight AND doing a load of diapers. MAYBE even trying out my very first loaf of bread... I'll let you know how it all turns out...

Two

Sometimes I close my eyes and try to remember life before you. I wonder if I could go back in time, to a life sans-bebe. But then I look at your funny little face and quickly realize that nothing is worth your hugs, your kisses and your laughter. I could never go back.

You changed everything.
You were my first.
I ate your birthday cupcakes.

Flower Shoppe?

Just daydreaming of opening a flower shop... any name ideas?
Those pictures are from the flower shop I told you about yesterday. It's in San Francisco and it also has a design shop and art gallery in it. AND it has an awesome name Rose and Radish . AND they have this subscription program where you pay exhorbitant amounts of money for bi-weekly or monthly flower deliveries- organized around a theme... COME ON. It's a dream come true. Imagine receiving fresh flowers EVERY MONTH. IMAGINE??!?

Ranunculus from Apartment Therapy

Just think... this all could be MINE. All mine.
So hit me with some fun names for my new imaginary business venture. Does anyone remember Baby Food? Ahem... that hurt.
